August 2024 Patreon Sketches
Wednesday, October 9th, 2024
As usual, these were requested in August, sketched in September, and are being shared here a little after that! I still have my 100 Cats project to share with y’all, but I haven’t yet figured out what format I want to use for the posts (and how much Photoshopping it will require, sigh).
- Nick and Andria both wanted coziness, so the napping purrito and autumn opossum are for them.
- SaraBeth asked for two of my OCs, Andy and Horace. Andy is a weird shadow monster who is in full muppet mode here, lol. (sold)
- Jefferson wanted a Galaxy Cake, ironically not the cake I had for my birthday this year. (sold)
- Eric asked for egrets. No regrets, only egrets. (sold)
- Kelly asked for a phoenix and got this sparkly boyo. (sold)
- Amber wanted Calvin & Hobbes, which I am always happy to deliver. (sold)
- I got another new pack of cool pencils and experimented with them to draw weird fire.
- Amy B wanted a batcat for the season! (sold)

Birthday Books
Saturday, July 2nd, 2016
For a dose of whimsy and delight, this charming little brush and ink painting is colored with rich, earthy watercolors, giving the feel of old library books and really good gifts.
The best birthdays come with books.
Now that’s a sentiment I can get behind. Art is another excellent choice, of course.
What’s your favorite gift to give or get?
Above, you can see the loose whimsy of the brush-and-ink illustration and the earthy watercolors. Below, the whimsy is contained in a frame, ready to grace your favorite bookshelf.

What You Deserve
Monday, March 30th, 2015
A wonderful friend and patron of mine (hi, C!) recently had a birthday, and since she’s already gotten my other Sherlock birthday cards, I drew her a new one! I decided to let John get one up on his friend here, though you’ll have to wonder what he’s found to make Sherlock’s eyes go that big and round.
The original is safe in its new home, but you can get a card for that very special friend of yours at my Etsy shop.
What You Deserve, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper.

Many Happy Returns
Wednesday, August 20th, 2014
“A birthday is a delightful thing to have…
So I’ll wish you many happy returns of the day!”
After having my Grumpy Old Bilbo card in the shop for a while, I decided perhaps a Cheerful Young Bilbo card was in order, for contrast. Bilbo has a cheerful bright hobbit-sized birthday cake behind him, and the first of no doubt many kegs of ale, and he’s all dressed in his finery for a party.
If you’ve got a friend that loves The Hobbit but isn’t quite so grumpy as all that, you can wish them a happy birthday with this card.
Many Happy Returns, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper.

Felicitations

This commission was so fun! Tara Swiger came to me wanting a Trekkie birthday card with a Tara sort of twist, and we passed ideas back and forth via email until this finally gelled.
Spock’s holding a gift in what I think of as Tara colors, though really her pink is usually even brighter, and Picard’s got his usual “make it so” hand gesture going on. It was kind of fun mixing eras, too (though technically Spock did show up on Next Generation, he wasn’t in his TOS uniform). A little logic, a little illogic, and a lot of fangirl glee went into the image!
After Tara got her original in the mail, she sent me this fun little quote to share with you:
Hoorah! I just got my custom illustration in the mail (Amy sent the ORIGINAL! So fancy!) and it is so perfect!
I requested a customer birthday card, something funny + sweet to send Captains on their birthday. Amy helped me come up with the perfect idea, because I was a bit foggy about what I wanted.
I love that she got the geekery and she’s clever enough to make it funny.Amy’s super-easy to work with (this is my second custom order!) and I’ve been nervous (I have NO idea what’s involved), but she makes it easy!
If you’d like an illustration of your very own, just email me to get started!

A Hobbity Birthday
Thursday, September 19th, 2013
Happy my-upcoming-Birthday to you! On Sunday I’ll be properly 40, and in grand hobbit tradition I have some little gifts for you.
- If you get a set of Sherlock or Doctor Who bookmarks in September, you’ll get an extra bonus bookmark. Just don’t blink.
- You can use this coupon code all through September to get 20% off anything in my Etsy shop: WHATDAYISIT
- My novel will be free on Kindle from Sept. 20-22, approximately midnight to midnight Pacific, though their servers are sometimes a bit slow to update.
- I’ll be offering something special to my Art Patron’s list as well, so keep an eye on your inbox!
Bilbo is of course available on a card, being his grumpy old self. I really enjoy antisocial old Bilbo Baggins and his dismissal of everyone else’s gossip about him. Though he still knows how to throw a party!
